Brunet today
Even though the history of Brunet extends back over a century and a half, the company’s expansion has been as recent as it has been prolific. In 1982, when the Brunet family sold the company to a group of pharmacists from the Québec City region, the number of Brunet stores could be counted on the fingers of one hand. By the time Metro Richelieu subsidiary McMahon Distributeur pharmaceutique Inc. acquired Brunet five years later, there were 11 stores, all in the Québec City area.
Phenomenal growth
Since then, the Brunet network has grown steadily at a rate of 5 to 10 new stores per year. With the opening in October 2007 of a new branch in St-Augustin-de-Desmaures on l'Hetriere Street and 5 others in the Cote-nord area (Baie-Comeau, Chute-aux-Outardes, Havre St-Pierre, Forestville and Les Escoumins). In September 2008, Brunet opened its 120th branch in St-Nicolas and 2 others branchs in November 2008 in Quebec in Charlesbourg and Lac St-Charles sector, the company now has 122 retail outlets throughout 14 of Quebec’s 17 administrative regions.
| Since 1997, Brunet has also had a sister banner, Clini Plus. The 72 Clini Plus outlets are simply smaller affiliated stores, often next door to a medical clinic. |
