This medication is typically used for pulmonary hypertension (a condition in which the pressure in the blood vessel leading from the heart to the lungs rises above normal levels).

Instructions

This medication is typically used only once a day. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed.

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember -- unless it is almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose. Do not double the next dose to catch up. This medication may be taken with or without food.

Side Effects

In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:

  • it may cause anemia (low red blood cells);
  • it may cause constipation -- to prevent this, drink plenty of water or juice, and eat more dietary fibre;
  • it may cause leg swelling or water retention;
  • it may cause nasal irritation or stuffiness;
  • it may cause redness of the face;
  • it may cause palpitations (rapid and strong heart beat).

Each person may react differently to a treatment. If you think this medication may be causing side effects (including those described here, or others), talk to your health care professional. He or she can help you to determine whether or not the medication is the source of the problem.

Storage

As with most medications, this product should be stored at room temperature. Store it in a secure location where it will not be exposed to excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.

Additionnal Information

Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use two effective contraceptive methods during the treatment and for several weeks after the end of it. Ask your health care professional for details.

Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. Pregnant contacts should also be protected from exposure to the medication.

Blood donation is usually refused during this treatment.
