Our skin is like a sponge—it absorbs everything we apply to it! For this reason, it’s crucial to know as much as possible about the beauty products we use, which can sometimes be toxic and irritating. If caring for your skin is as important to you as looking your best, you’re going to love this year’s natural makeup beauty trend.

What is natural makeup?
When you see the word “natural” on a product, that means it contains no or hardly any synthetic ingredients. For example, a lipstick might be deemed “natural” if it doesn’t contain chemicals such as perfumes or artificial colouring. Natural makeup products, on the other hand, are made of wax, vegetable oil, plant extracts, and mineral pigments, which are all gentle on the skin. These cosmetics are suitable for all skin types! Of course, the ingredients in each product will vary from one brand to the next. Read all about the ingredients in our products inspired by nature to discover which cosmetic brands are right for you!
What’s more, makeup made with natural ingredients tends to be easier to remove. No need to damage your skin by scrubbing hard or using harsh products!
When you see the word “organic” on a label, you can be sure that at least 95% of the ingredients it contains are natural, and that at least 10% of them have been grown organically (i.e., no pesticides, GMOs, etc.). If you have sensitive skin, organic makeup is just what the doctor ordered!
Ingredients to avoid
Essential oils sometimes cause allergic reactions. If your skin is reactive, you should choose cosmetics that don’t contain them. Non-natural products can also contain ingredients that are irritating or that cause more intense reactions.

A natural look that’s truly natural
The “no-makeup makeup” look, which consists of minimalist, natural-looking makeup, is gaining in popularity. That being said, traditional cosmetics can damage your skin and cause imperfections, prompting you to wear even more makeup to hide pimples and redness. All of this defeats the point of a “no makeup” look. Natural makeup, on the other hand, does double duty, leaving you with nourished skin and lashes. Here are a few basic products you should keep in your makeup kit for a natural makeup look that will never fail you:
1
Foundation
Natural foundation is often made of vegetable oils, mineral pigments, and water. These allow your skin to breathe and will give you a more natural glow. Choosing a non-comedogenic product that contains zinc will also help regulate your skin and protect it from the sun. To make sure your “no makeup” look is a success, choose a foundation that matches your skin tone (no fake tans here!).
2
Lipstick
Natural lip products contain waxes, vegetable oils, and fats such as shea or cocoa butter, which are all very moisturizing. If you want to keep things as natural-looking as possible, you can also just use lip balm. Sayonara, dry lips! Check out our tips on how to get beautiful lips.
3
Eyeshadow
Natural eyeshadow gets its vibrant pigmentation from mineral and plant extracts. While natural eyeshadows are available in a wide array of colours, opting for shades of brown and other earth tones will help you achieve the most natural eye makeup look.
4
Mascara
Natural mascara is made from vegetable wax or beeswax and floral waters. These ingredients help protect and moisturize your lashes. They’re especially beneficial if your lashes are fragile and tend to fall out, or if you’re looking for a way to strengthen them.
When you start using natural cosmetics, remember to adjust your expectations. Since natural makeup doesn’t contain synthetic preservatives, you may have to touch it up more throughout the day. You should also expect these cosmetics to provide you with a bit less coverage than non-natural products. That said, the benefits of natural makeup products are twofold: not only are they trending right now, they’re gentle on your skin!
