4 summer hairstyles inspired by local celebrities

Warm weather is finally here! And as the summer approaches, you’ll probably want to try new hairstyles. If you’ve checked your Instagram feed recently, you might have noticed that celebrities are inspiring us with their new locks. They’ve given us loads of ideas for beautiful hairstyles that we can easily try out for ourselves.

Le plaqué sophistiqué de Maripier Morin

Maripier Morin’s sophisticated slicked back look

For the CAFA awards in Toronto, Mariepier Morin opted for a chick and ultramodern style. Her gelled and slicked back hair tied in a low ponytail helped her sublime look (and dress!) stand out. Wear this style without anything hiding your face and neck and you’ll be ready for anything and everything this summer.

Directions

  1. Dry your hair with a round brush and flatten the tips of your hair near your face with a flat iron.
  2. Tie your hair in a low ponytail and slick back the hair on top of your head with a boar bristle brush or fine comb.
  3. Use a bit of hair spray for a matte finish or hair gel spray for a wet look.

Marie-Mai’s siren waves

We all envy Marie-Mai’s platinum blonde locks but its her loose waves that I find magnificent. Halfway between “beach waves” and an ultra sleek look, this hairstyle is incredibly easy to pull off and will make heads turn!

Directions

  1. Start with dry, straight hair on which you’ve applied a heat protection spray.
  2. Grab a 2-inch lock of hair and use a flat iron horizontally in wave motions (upwards, then downwards). You can use a hair clip or comb with handle to shape the locks in the direction you want.
  3. Repeat on all your hair.
  4. Once you’re done, slightly tussle your hair with your fingers and add a bit of hair spray for longer lasting results.

Véronique Cloutier’s romantic waves

Who doesn’t want Véronique Cloutier’s hair? No matter what style she chooses, her blonde hair is always impeccable. For her 1res fois show, Véro opted for a user-friendly version of an “Old Hollywood Glam” style. It’s a lot easier to recreate than you think.

Directions

  1. Let your hair air dry or roughly dry it with a hair dryer. One way or the other, you’ll get maximum texture.
  2. Use a 1-inch curling iron to curl your locks while holding the iron horizontally. Vary the size of the locks of hair you’re curling which will recreate a vintage look.
  3. Once your hair is curled, lightly brush them to create a wave effect.
  4. Apply flexible hairspray for long-lasting results.

Marina Bastarache’s double bun

A staple of the 1990s, the double bun as worn by Marina Bastarache is due for a comeback: it’s an incredibly fun, unique hairstyle. Whether the look is done with small braids, half buns, or two large buns, it’s a style that’s as simple or elaborate as you want it to be. But it’s always incredibly cool.

Directions

  1. Part your hair down the middle and tie it all or only the hair on top of your head in two ponytails. Check in the mirror to make sure they’re symmetrical.
  2. Then, lightly crimp both ponytails to add a touch of volume.
  3. Lightly twist both ponytails into loose buns and keep them in place with hairpins.
  4. A bit of hairspray and you’re all set!

Pro tip: to make your look even more original, reverse French braid some hair from the top of your head to the buns (just before tying your ponytails).
