Who never dreamed of having the power to stop the effect of time on one skin? The reality is that each passing year affects our body, and, unfortunately, skin is no exception. However, it is possible, with a little care and common sense, to slow down skin’s aging process.
1. Protect yourself from the sun
Apply, as often as needed, sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Sun contributes significantly to premature aging, in addition to exposing you to a higher risk of skin cancer.
2. Avoid tanning salons
Sunless tanning is one of your skin’s worst enemies as it makes it age much faster.
Keep your skin well hydrated; not only your body, but also your face. Just as your body needs an average of at least 1.5 litres of water a day, your skin needs hydration to stay youthful and healthy. Apply moisturizer that is adapted to your skin type’s needs, especially in the areas that are exposed to the sun.
4. Eat healthy
A healthy, balanced diet, as recommended by Canada’s Food Guide, is an essential measure to stay healthy and youthful. Make sure you get a daily intake of vitamins and minerals by eating a lot of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, etc. Avoid or reduce your intake of high-fat and high-sugar foods. To a certain degree, the quality of your diet is reflected in the appearance of your skin.
5. Quit smoking
Like the sun, tobacco is a significant factor in skin’s aging. It leads to premature wrinkles because it damages the skin’s elastic fibres. Plus, cigarettes make your skin dull and your complexion uneven.
Physical activity is good for your body and your skin. It also promotes a feeling of well-being, improves the quality of sleep, and reduces stress.
Stress can contribute to making your skin age prematurely. Some relaxation methods, such as meditation and massages, can help prevent and fight this phenomenon.
8. Get enough sleep
Follow a regular sleep schedule to promote rejuvenation. The average number of hours of sleep an adult needs is about eight per night. A good night’s sleep contributes in many ways to maintaining the health and beauty of your skin.
9. Inform yourself
Choose carefully your cosmetic products, including those you use to cleanse and moisturize your face. Later on, you’ll be happy to have selected high-quality products that are adapted to your skin. For more information, ask your pharmacist or check with a beauty advisor in a Brunet near you.
