Foot care: How to have beautiful feet

What’s the best way to take care of your feet? Hygiene, hydration, shoes, and a pedicure! Read on to learn everything you need to know about how to make your feet as beautiful as can be.

Healthy looking feet for summer

Foot care at home

Your feet work hard all day to support you and help you get from point A to point B. Return the favour by pampering them with top-notch care.

To get beautiful feet, start by removing dead skin and calluses. You might want to think twice about using last year's pumice stone, though—it could be harbouring harmful bacteria. Instead, use a new stone or a foot file, depending on the condition of your feet. Applying an exfoliating scrub in the shower can also help remove dead skin build-up.

After your skin has been softened, apply a rich cream to your feet in the evening. We recommend choosing a cream that contains urea to promote hydration. Massaging your feet at the same time will help the cream better penetrate the skin. This action is also relaxing and can help promote a peaceful night's sleep. If you apply a hydrating lotion before bed, it'll have a chance to work its magic throughout the night while your feet are at rest.

How to care for your feet every day

  1. Wash your feet with mild soap and water and make sure to dry them, especially after sweating.
  2. Wear comfortable, breathable shoes that fit well.
  3. Moisturize your feet daily after showering and before bed.
  4. Exfoliate your feet once a week.
  5. Cut your toenails straight across and maintain them.
  6. Take foot baths in cold or lukewarm water.
  7. Check your feet daily to identify any issues in the early stages.

Important: Don't ignore a foot problem! Consult your pharmacist or doctor to start proper treatment as soon as possible.

Giving yourself an at-home pedicure

Do you love decorating your toenails with lovely colours? Or maybe you just like pampering them to keep them healthy-looking and attractive?

You don't need an appointment—you can give yourself a salon-quality pedicure at home in a few easy steps.

Follow these steps to give yourself a successful pedicure in the comfort of your own home:

  1. Remove any nail polish, then trim and file your toenails.
  2. Polish them with a polisher.
  3. Apply a cuticle emollient around the nails.
  4. Soak your feet in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes (or take a shower or bath).
  5. Use a cuticle pusher to push your cuticles back, and remove any debris or dead skin around and under the nail.
  6. Moisturize your feet. Prepare each nail by swabbing them with a layer of nail polish remover.
  7. Apply a base coat, followed by nail polish and a protective top coat.
  8. Use a nail polish remover pen to correct any mistakes. Don't worry—any nail polish you get on your skin will come off the next time you shower.

If you prefer a more natural look or just want to take care of your feet without adding any colour, you can give yourself a pedicure without polish! Simply follow steps 1 to 6 above.

Tips to make your polish last longer:

  • The day after your pedicure, apply cuticle oil to the entire surface of the nail. This will moisturize the skin around the nail bed and help your polish last longer.
  • If you can't wait for your nail polish to dry completely before going to bed or putting on socks or shoes, you can cover your toes with a thin layer of petroleum jelly to protect your polish.

Don't hesitate to ask your local Brunet pharmacy beauty specialist for advice.
